USU and UKM Community Service Collaboration for Indigenous People in Malaysia

Medan - FKM USU: FKM USU and Public Health Office of the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) held a joint community service activity at Kampung Kedat Negeri Sembilan Malaysia, Saturday (20 May 2023) with the theme "Towards Civil Family Welfare: Respect Your Health". The target community in this activity is the indigenous Malaysian community in Kampung Kedat, which reaches 150 people. As many as 27 FKM USU graduate students were involved in this activity, while 40 were from UKM. The activities carried out include joint exercise, health screening, demonstration of healthy menus, education on non-communicable diseases, education on parasitology and entomology, education on healthy family planning, demonstration of proper hand washing techniques, demonstration of dental hygiene, and education on the dangers of smoking and drinking alcoholic. The two faculties in this activity shared resources, knowledge, and experiences which were expected to improve the health quality of indigenous Malaysians. Dean of FKM USU Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si, who led the FKM USU group, expressed her appreciation to UKM that Prof. Madya Aniza Ismail represented for the collaborative activity. Likewise, Prof. Madya Aniza Ismail, in her remarks, hoped that the collaboration between USU and UKM will continue in various other academic activities. The indigenous people of Malaysia, the target of this service program, were enthusiastic and actively participate in all activities.
